With the Geyers (known as “Geyers Schwarzer Haufen” from 1983 onwards), Thomas was a founding member of the first band in Germany to combine rock with medieval music, using traditional medieval instruments such as the hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, and the nyckelharpa. Austrian singer Wilfried had his first number one hit in the Austrian charts in 1973 with his English-language debut single, “Mary, Oh Mary.” With “Ziwui, ziwui,” he temporarily switched to singing in dialect and established himself as an early Austro-pop artist.
