Live At Rockpalast 1978

Dieses SPIRIT Konzert, eine Rockpalast Eurovision Ausstrahlung aus dem März 1978, ist heute eines der Highlights aus der ersten Rockpalast Phase (1977 bis 1986). Randy Californias Gitarrenstil ist sehr stark von Jimi Hendrix beeinflusst, in dessen Band er schon im zarten Alter von 15 Jahren gespielt hatte. Er spielte HENDRIX’ Versionen von den DYLAN Songs “Like A Rolling Stone” und “All Along The Watchtower”, wobei er ein imposantes Bass-Fundament mit seinem Moog Synthesizer hinzufügte, den er über ein Pedal wie eine Orgel bediente. Das Drumset von Randys Stiefvater ED CASSIDY’s war sehr beeindruckend, da es wie im klassischen Orchester zwei Kesselpauken enthielt. Seine Drumsolos gelten als Höhepunkte dieses Konzerts. Larry “Fuzzy” Knight komplettierte das Power-Trio. Gegen Ende der Show kam DICKEY BETTS zurück auf die Bühne um mit Spirit zu jammen. Seine melodiöse Southern Rock Gitarre bildete einen spannenden Kontrast zu RANDY CALIFORNIA’s taffem Gitarren-Stil.
